PAHS Fellowship Program
“A fellowship is an advanced graduate medical education beyond a core residency program for physicians who desire to enter more specialized practice.” Source: ACGME, 2020) Fellows at PAHS will require to meet eligibility criteria for admission, satisfactorily complete a structured training program and meet all requirements before graduation.
The Fellowship programs at Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS) are designed to address the acute shortage of subspecialist manpower in the country. PAHS enrolls experienced specialists in the fellowship programs who are currently practicing in their relative fields to supplement their levels of knowledge, skills and attitudes so that they become compassionate, competent and patient-centered academician and physicians of the nation to improve the health of Nepali people, especially the poor and underserved in rural areas. The PAHS fellows, on completion of the programs, are expected to be leaders in teaching PAHS students and residents and in the national healthcare system.
After completion of the fellowship program, the graduates will acquire and maintain cognitive knowledge, practical skills, and attitudes necessary to provide excellent care in their relevant field. They will be encouraged to act as community resources for expertise in their field, and educating future generations of learners’.
The mission of the Fellowship Programs at PAHS is to train and prepare subspecialist physicians in Nepal who are capable of managing, preventing, and controlling various diseases, educating healthcare workers, and advancing research related to the field who will be able to provide excellent care for patients in needs, educate other health professionals; take leadership in improving health care at national level.
Goal
The goal of the fellowship programs at PAHS is to provide a comprehensive experience and training in respective subjects to produce competent fellows who are accountable and adhere to the principles of medical ethics by respecting and protecting patients’ best interests.
Objectives
The objectives of PAHS post-graduate program is to provide systematic training under the guidance of qualified Faculties so as to produce qualified doctors with wide-ranging skills and experience who have the PAHS eight core competencies (Professionalism, Patient-Centered Care, Community Orientated, Clinical Reasoning, Communication, Procedural Skills, Scholarship, Leadership)
