Department of Ophthalmology

Overview

The Department of Ophthalmology at Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS), Patan Hospital, was established with the mission to improve the eye health status of the people of Nepal. It aims to provide comprehensive eye care to large population groups in both urban and rural areas. With service as the supreme priority, the department also focuses on producing highly skilled human resources. The education in Ophthalmology at the institute aims to produce medical professionals for nations struggling to provide adequate eye care services.

Since its establishment, the department has become well-recognized for delivering affordable, high-quality eye care services to economically poor and underprivileged communities. Faculty members and undergraduate students are actively involved in clinical research, with many articles published in international and national peer-reviewed journals.

Out-Patient Services (OPD)

General OPD: Available on all working days.
Specialty Services: Include comprehensive eye care, refraction services, and various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

In-Patient Services

Provides care for patients requiring hospitalization for eye-related conditions.

Undergraduate

MBBS Program: Includes ophthalmology training as part of the curriculum.

Postgraduate

MD-Ophthalmology Program: Started in 2024 A.D.

Periodic Training

MDGP, MD Internal Medicine, MD Pediatrics, BN & MN Programs: Includes ophthalmology rotations and training.
