PAHS Research and Scholarly Activities Committee (RSAC)

Mission and Objectives

The mission of the Research and Scholarly Activities Committee is to promote an environment for enhancing research culture and scholarly activities at PAHS.

The objectives of the PAHS Research and Scholarly Activities Committee (RSAC) are:

  1. Serve in an advisory role to the PAHS EC for the policies related to research and scholarly activities and their implementation.
  2. Provide guidance and training to the PAHS students, faculty and staff members to stimulate and facilitate their research and scholarly productivity.
  3. Facilitate to establish and maintain a healthy research base across the PAHS departments and promote cross-disciplinary research and scholarly output.
  4. Identify research gaps and plan strategies to overcome such gaps and to build institutional capacity for research.

Why RSAC?

  1. Research: Research is an intellectual investigation focusing on discovering, interpreting, and revising human knowledge. Research plays key role in advancement in knowledge and evidence-based practice in healthcare.
  2. Scholarly Activities or Scholarship: Scholarly activities are important for maintenance of a sound academic environment in an academic institution and for growth of its faculty. The 4 major components of scholarship or scholarly activity are discovery, integration, application, and teaching. (Hofmeyer et al, 2007; Grady et al, JGME 2012)
  1. Discovery = advancing knowledge; e.g., research, publishing papers, presenting abstracts
  2. Integration = synthesizing knowledge; e.g., case studies or reports, educational projects
  3. Application = applying existing knowledge; e.g., participation in guideline panels
  4. Teaching = dissemination of knowledge; e.g., delivering lectures, curriculum development
