Department of Orthopedic Surgery

 

Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology was established in 2001. It used to function with department of surgery on a bed sharing basis. Later it was allocated with dedicated beds, and used to be a post graduate training center for MDGP, Surgery and Orthopedic residents posted from IOM and NAMS.
Since then; its services have been expanded each year. At present, this department has been providing sub-specialty oriented services both traumatic and non – traumatic.

Departmental services

In-patient services

65 beds, allocated for orthopedic and traumatology ward are occupied most of the time. The ward consist of post operative room, infective room and general ward .
There is separate procedure room where minor orthopedics procedures like cast application, cast removal, debridemet, dressing , percutaneous pinning, pin removal , suturing ,suture/staples removal are performed.

Out-patient services

Outpatient services are available 5 days a week. The number of patients has been increasing every year.

Emergency services:

Orthopedics department has been providing 24-hour emergency service for the patients.

Operative services:

The department has been conducting all kinds of major and minor operative procedures including trauma and non-trauma and reconstructive procedures.
Our operation theater is well equipped.
Various major orthopaedic surgeries that are performed include: 

    • Trauma 
    • Arthroplasty
    •  Arthroscopy and Sports Injury
    •  Musculo-skeletal Oncology
    •  Tumor
    •  Spine
    •  Pelvi-acetabular and complex surgery
    •  Infection
    •  Shoulder surgeries- Bankart repair, Latarjet procedure, etc.
    •  Hand and microsurgery
    •  Foot and ankle

PG program:

All the trainee/residents are actively involved with academics in the form of case presentation, seminars and journal presentations. The academic roster is updated yearly and usually released one month prior so that the trainee gets adequate time for its preparation.
The topics covers wide range of the syllabus and focuses from the basic to the high yield which is the requisite that has to be fulfilled by a postgraduate trainee.

Post graduate residency program is a competency-based program trained and evaluated across PAHS eight core competencies.

The assessment tools used are : Core content review/Case based discussion/DOPS/Mini-CEX/EPAs/Fieldnotes
