Earthquake Disaster Management at Patan Hospital

On 25 April 2015,  7.9 Richter scale tragic and devastating earthquake disaster hit Nepal and the aftershocks followed which claimed more than 8000 human lives and 16000 injures leaving hundreds of thousands of people homeless with hundreds of missing cases. The data is expected to rise even higher. All the team including medical, non-medical and students worked hard to manage the disaster out of which we got compliment as one of the best managed hospitals from various sources. More than 1500 cases were brought to Patan hospital after the disaster with 57 of brought dead bodies. More than 200 cases were planned for surgeries with some with multiple and major surgeries. Victims are getting free medical treatments at Patan Hospital with free food also to one of the caretakers out of generous support from local donors. The second big hit on 12 May made people more panic with hospital receiving more victims for medical treatment. We are now running almost all services in the makeshift tent hospitals within the hospital premise and in the field hospital in the ground of Buddhi Bikas Mandal, a local club. We have been conducting even dialysis service and OT in tents. The admitted victims are being cent percent waived of medical treatments charges with supply for free food to a caretaker in addition to the victims.
